Polish Ambassador, The - Diplomatic Immunity - madachik Good Lord! This is a synth-pop and electro masterpiece! Earth Versus The World is the top song on this album, and is definately reminiscent of early to mid-80's italo disco, euro disco, and even some dimensions of experimental minimal wave. Many songs are short and fully of crazy sounds and noises, while other tracks on the album are full, blown out electro bombs! London Telecommunicating is another masterpiece that I have no problems playing regularly in my sets. What a hidden gem, as I am shocked so few know of this project! |
Tyrant - No Shoes, No Cake - prakashwicked Is the track no. 15 of cd2, orion muzik - alone, the correct name? I wanted to buy the record, but the person from who i was gonna buy it from (i cut the song from the set so he could listen to it) said that wasn't the real track im looking for. Please somebody help me, I really like that song. it mite be incorrect cos the track before it is actually wrong, its: karnak - white moon, not black moon. Thanks. |
Ubeboet - Black And Red - Engrudo Miguel Ángel Tolosa (Ubeboet) from Madrid makes again a fine job here. He mainly uses field recordings and concrete sounds to create "Black And Red", and some turntables here and there in order to add nice textures to some plane parts.
"Black And Red" is mostly quiet and relaxed, above all when non-processed field recording are used (water raw sounds, for example) or when the mood approaches to ambient-esque terrains, using strongly modified recordings to generate nice atmospheres.
Albeit there are some obscure and industrial-oriented moments, they add more diverse parts and fit perfectly to the usual tranquil sound. This is a calm and pleasant work, and finally a great example of how to use concrete sounds and field recordings (natural/artificial; edited/original) in the global process of composition, even in a strictly musical sense. A very recommended collection of recordings perfectly shaped and assembled into a logical and enjoyable piece of sound.

Goldie - Timeless - RichPickings RichPickings of arcticreviews wrote:
The wide eyed illegitimate child of rave, jungle had remained firmly underground, the limited appeal of it’s shredding bass hypnotising small pockets of clubbers in south London garages but lacking accessibility. Clifford Price (That’s Goldie to you and me) was one of the primary energies behind it’s metamorphosis and Timeless was his magnum opus, the unashamed sound of a genius at work. To a few small minded artisans it stood as a betrayal of the founding principles of the movement, selling it out in exchange for mass appeal, but the protagonists were mostly luddite bystanders who had carved their own inescapably constricting niches; Goldie’s pedigree and roots whilst growing up publicly as the scene face guaranteed the respect to face down the accusers.
Taking most of the traditional elements of the jungle formula – wall wobbling sub bass and million miles an hour breaks – and deftly adding touches of soul and jazz - Timeless was a monstrous hybrid which presented a new and highly viable alternative to the pre-superclub sterility of the early 90’s house scene. The titular opener was a stunning triptych, a no holds barred affirmation of a vision long in gestation but ready to be unleashed, featuring the epic Inner City Life and setting the template; handbraked beats, twisted bass, the occaisional razor sharp snare or distorted sample remaining true to the ethos of jungle but consciously breaking the sound open to the world. Not resting on any laurels, “Saint Angel” was a mind blowing concoction of off centre fx, processed samples and mutant keyboards and with the collective protagonists by now oozing with dynamic confidence State of Mind worked the contrasts, rippling nu-soul, almost balladry whilst Angel and Sensual showed how straightforward it was to nudge the genre towards the mainstream by having female vocalists D.Charlemagne and Justina Curtis provide soulful contrast to the maniacal technology. The unquestionable centrepiece though is the 12 minute Sea of Tears; resisting the temptation to sprawl self indulgently, Goldie provides one of the tightest dozen drum and bass minutes ever, augmenting the usual trickery with interspersed spoken word sequences, a sample from a pinball machine and an airy jazz guitar motif. The primal scream of self actualisation that told you the genesis was complete, it remains the bar which nearly every imitator fell at. Recognised virtually posthumously by the music industry with Roni Size’s Mercury prize, the movement’s embers still glow, although ten years later it’s now back underground, shaking warehouse floors and archway clubs whilst never quite fulfilling it’s destiny

Wish Key - Orient Express - kiekelly What a tune, never heard this until recently, they really are some undiscovered gems going under the Italo Disco banner. Totally agree with Magic00, this track defines all that is great about the genre. Super camp rolling bassline mix with garishly bright riffs and stabs, completely naff yet completely compelling. However whats especially excellent here is the double tracked male/female vocal - Wicked, Wicked, Wicked! The sleeve Artwork is top too of course, check it out! |
Lisa Shaw - echorich Lisa Shaw is the voice you need when you want that certain seduction in the vocals. One that grabs you, holds, has it's way with you and leaves you with a smile, a sigh and a need for more. Cherry is like a longtime companion, someone you turn to, you need and you want. Her vocals on Warrior are a legend, on Always are definitive and on Let It Ride are classic. For 2008 our appetites are wetted with Find A Way and All Night High. My anticipation for more uncontrollable. |
Digital Pressure - Un Real / Event Horizon - Project_One_DJ_Team This record is one of the most amazing hard trance belters I know of. Both sides are exellent tracks in their own right, Unreal, featuring the wellknown sample 'In a few moments you will have an experience which will seem completely real', is a very good recreation of the classic DJ Scot Project sound. It contains a tremendously euphoric riff and a killer kick and bassline.
Event Horizon is somewhat more dark, and contains a sample taken from one of the soundtracks in the Fifa World Cup 98 game. It is also equipped with a great melody and is, in my opinion, the second best track on the vinyl only by a very slim margin. |
Tarmvred - Tintorama EP - kinasek Tintorama is a metaphysical experience.
Through an epic drama between powerful beat attacks and sorrowful melodies, you'll experience a unique perspective on these states of mind:
Innocence (Oskulden) Arsenic (... a thing you should know about cigarette) Maiden (Jungfrun) Death (Döden)
Following tracks such as Kryptoteknik and Red Response (rmx), Tarmvred is definitely taking "noise" to a higher level of consciousness. In fact, I'd dare define that style as True Gothic. After all, Jonas is from Sweden ;) |
Eddie Sender - Lenin - qoTIMop I'm usually a big fan of Moorising Recordings, and this first release on MoonNRG really caught immediately my attention. Unfortunately, I was kinda disappointed by this release. Eddie Sender didn't succeed in bringing some harmony to the techy-style he wanted to use in this track. So after listening to it, it just seems like you heard 7 minutes of bangin beats, but nothing more. There's no real driving melody ; and above all, there's no great build-up to catch the attention. I just felt, after listening to this track, that I've never been able to fit into its spirit. I expected more! |
TyDi - Kopi Susu - qoTIMop TyDi is bangin, Tydi is emotional, Tydi is complete, Tydi is talented : well, Tydi is just very good. And even if I'm not really into prog house, I gotta say this young Australian never fails to impress me. His tracks are very well built-up, with stunning melodies and sounds. Often, he adds some amazings details which give every track a real "uniqueness". I think Tydi might be the upcoming star of the prog house genre. "Kopi Susu", with its weird name, is an unique track, indeed. The melody is calm & peaceful. But at the same time it has a lot of power. The "Chocolate & Cream Mix" is really amazing, though the other one isn't bad at all neither. After such a good track, Tydi is becoming a name to remember... and he's on fire : his new track, "Russia", is almost as good as this one. |
